Update - January 2008
Dear Friends,
Debra and I have a wonderful opportunity to make a brief visit to our home church in the Los Angeles area, and be present for the presentation of a gift toward the hospitality house building project.
This has come at a moment in which it was becoming clear that we would no longer be able to see the hospitality house construction project completed before our anticipated July 2008 home assignment. Because of the necessity of being in Brazil during that period, and in consultation with the mission, we have decided to delay that home assignment. So we're especially grateful for this unexpected opportunity now and to be able to take personal time to spend with family during this trip as well. We arrive at LAX on the evening of January 27 and depart for Brazil on February 16.
Without going into a lot of details, we did find some property suitable for the building project, and recently made a proposal. However the owner did not accept it. But, because we went through all the hoops to get everything in place for the purchase, which took longer than expected, at least now everything is ready for moving quickly when the opportunity arises. We have a preliminary design for the home, and even through some modifications need to be done, it's exciting to see how well the engineer captured our vision for meeting the needs of our guests.
Regarding the financial situation, even though we aren't at 100% of what we expect will be required for the entire project, as things stand today we are able to purchase land and launch into the construction phase. As we begin building we expect Brazilian enthusiasm to collaborate in tangible ways. As construction progresses it will also become clear financially whether we can go ahead with our dream house, so to speak, or whether we'll have to stick to the adequate basics on some things.
