Ignition is a skateboard ministry and is part of Student Ministries at Grace Baptist Church. We visit a different So Cal Skatepark on the Grace Bus every other month and meet at SCV Skatepark on the months we don't travel. We set up a bbq, feed everyone at the park and raffle off skate stuff, usually a new deck, shirts and dvd's. Before the food is served we share the gospel of Jesus Christ to all that will listen. Skaters like all people need to know that there are consequences to our actions and they need the saving power of Jesus so that they can make that transfer from death to life and spend eternity in heaven with our creator.
***Tuesday nights at the Santa clarita skatepark we will be having a D Group (Discipleship Group a.k.a. Bible study). We will walk though different verses that will help us in our walk with jesus. Be there at 6:30 pm for the "transforming of your mind." Romans 12:2*** .
****wEDNESDAY NIGHTS FROM 5-ISH PM TO 7 PM WE HAVE THE RAMPS, RAILS, AND BLOCKS SET UP IN THE PARKING LOT FOR SKATERS AND SCOOTER-ERS TO RIDE BEFORE JR. HIGH OR HIGH SCHOOL GROUPS. COME SKATE WITH US BEFORE YOUTH GROUP BEGINS. --- RULES OF THE NIGHT INCLUDE ONLY RIDING IN DESIGNATED CONED AREAS. STAY AWAY FROM AREAS WHERE OTHERS ARE WALKING AND HANGING OUT. iF SHANNON, NOAH, AND RICH CAN'T BE THERE (ONLY ONE OF US NEEDS TO BE THERE) THEN THE RAMPS WON'T BE SET UP.****A CURRENT MED FORM (SEE BELOW TO DOWNLOAD ONE) IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.****

Here are two stories from two rad dudes |
 |
Shannon first learned how to ride a skateboard in 1979 at the age of 10 yrs old, his older brother Sean was shredding at places like Skatercross in Van Nuys CA and backyard pools all over the Valley. Fast Forward to 1985 when the street skating scene really started gaining popularity. Shannon quickly took to street skating and was one of the first skaters in Santa Clarita to ollie up a picnic table. Shannon kept skating into the early 90's then got into Motocross racing and BMX, he always missed skating and thankfully skateboarding found its way back into Shannon's life around 2002 and little did he know that God would turn his passion for skating into a Ministry. One day Shannon was visiting his brother in Mission Viejo and he took a quick trip to Etnies skatepark only to see a familiar face from Church it was his friend Eric Christiansen. Eric told Shannon that he was starting a Christan skate ministry called Ignition at Grace Baptist church and that he should help out. His passion for sharing the love of Christ with skaters was evident and when Eric had to step away from the ministry to pursue what God was doing in his life Shannon was able to step up and lead Ignition Skate Ministry. With help from Rich Engel and Deb Bahr and a church that stands behind the skate community, Ignition Skate Ministry is able to get the gospel of Jesus Christ out to skaters all over southern CA |

Rich first stood on a skateboard at 7 years old and continued to enjoy riding in high school when drainage ditches, backyard pools, and ramps were the way to go. He didn’t skate for more than 15 years before getting back into it with his son (who didn’t want to surf) a couple of years ago. Skateboarding is a way to keep his surfing polished. Rich works with Student Life Ministries as a Jr. High volunteer and helps Shannon with Ignition Skate Ministry. |
