Dave & Katie Walker
New Tribes Mission

Ministry Overview: Dave and Katie, members of Grace, now serve in Papua New Guinea where they are part of a tribal church planting team there. "We are partnering with local churches and individuals in the USA to plant sister churches among the least reached people on the planet. We intend to move into a remote tribal location, learn the undocumented tribal language of the people in there, develop a written language and literacy program in this tribal group, translate scripture into said language -and all this in hopes of seeing an indigenous sister church planted among the people there."

Where they live: "Our years of training have been to prepare us to reach out to those in an undocumented language and remote tribal location. Few and far between in this day and age, Papua New Guinea is one of the final frontiers for missions in this capacity. Already outfitted with extensive missionary infrastructure (i.e. missionary aviation, missionary-kid education, missionary support workers, etc.), Papua New Guinea has been a mission field for decades and is well equipped for field missionaries like us to join the effort there. Approximately the same size as the state of California, Papua New Guinea is home to 830 distinct languages (some with multiple dialects as well), more than 600 of which are without any translation of the Word of God. The positive relationship there between the national government and Christianity clears an obstacle that missionaries in many other countries spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours trying to overcome. Missionary visas and easy travel in and out of the country make it a field even more 'ripe for harvest.'"

April 2012

Dear Friends,

Thank you so very much for your prayers the last few weeks as we have been considering forming a team with two other families. It has been an incredibly encouraging experience and it has been neat to see how the Lord has answered our prayers.  He is good!

We are overjoyed and excited to introduce you to our team!

Josh & Faye Butler (Noah & Karis) Joseph & Elizabeth Osborn (Belle, Lucy, Everett and #4 on the way!)

To learn more about our team, check out our website: http://walkerministry.com.

What's next?

  • We are officially finished with our national language study! Praise God!
  • Joseph & Elizabeth will be heading back to the States in a few months to welcome baby #4
  • We are praying and researching different possible tribal works that need missionaries
  • We are hopeful that we will be able to move into a tribe and begin house building before our partners leave to have their baby

Please continue to pray with us for:

  • Clear direction as we consider different tribal works
  • Safe and healthy pregnancy for Elizabeth
  • Our team, as we continue to get to know one another...and that our focus would remain centered on the Lord
  • Wisdom and discernment in dealing with all the "ins and outs" of moving into a tribal location

We'll keep you posted as things progress.  In the meantime, know that we are praying for you too (we really are!) and we are excited for the opportunity to serve Him together!

Love,
Dave, Katie, Layla, and Eli
